Right, I need to know the cheapest possible way of travelling from Peterborough on a day out to London Zoo on the 25th Feb.

There are 3 Adults travelling and it has to be a return.

Assuming you're not bothered about speed, your best bet is probably a GPS-3 ticket Routed 'FCC Only'...others will confirm this though I'm sure, as I dont have a chance to check specifics at the mo :)

Huh, all I understood from that was the fact that it was only valid on FCC - I'm open to split tickets etc...

Thanks for the help so far though....

Sorry, my mistake! GPS-3 is Groupsave, 2 people pay and 3/4 travel :)

even with congestion charge and central London parking? Also, you assume they have a car available...

The only potential split (and I've not checked it for cost) would involve Huntingdon, and even then only if one of you has a Network Railcard- but then that's not valid on Groupsave as far as I'm aware. Got Oyster cards? PAYG or season? If PAYG, then off-peak travel card returns may be cheaper than off-peak return plus two PAYG singles.

Or, if you've each got a card that can take having a £300 charge (not a debit, a sort of ghost-charge where no money is taken) against it then you could try the Bike Hire to get between Kings Cross and the Zoo.

(Peterborough not being in the Network Card zone is baffling. Surely wouldn't hurt the coffers that much to extend it, even if Ely-Peterborough was kept out and East Coast was excluded. After all, it's a heck of a lot closer to London than Exeter is, and it's the only station on the FCC network not in the zone)

Cheapest way for 3 to travel? Drive...

*runs and hides*

Not my idea of fun, I don't mind driving long distances BUT at night when there's very little traffic.

Actually to come to think of it, I would love to take a spin on the German autobahns :)

Ah see, cheers :)

ajax - don't you get free FCC travel?

Do the others you are going with have any travel privileges?

London Zoo is outside the congestion charge zone.

Back to the original question, train to Finsbury Park (£66 return for three adults on the direct 08:45 or 09:44), then bus to Camden and either walk from there or change onto the 274 bus which stops right outside the zoo. Only trouble with that ticket is that it's not valid in the evening peak so you're limited to coming back on the 15:41 or earlier, or the 19:27 or later.

I get free travel but the others don't, :(

Thanks for that, :)
