Peterborough to get Flyover

How many freight trains per day are there supposed to be? I went to have a look at this line when the Bittern ran up to Lincoln. It was the only train I saw. Other days I have only seen Spalding to Peterborough DMUs since the Bittern run.

Three daytime freights have been rerouted that way (plus the Goole
sand train which already ran via Spalding), but they all run on weekday
afternoons, so if you visit the line before 2pm, or on a Saturday,
you won't see any freight!

Thanks Mark. I am new to this forum and have only recently taken a keen interest in all things rail related after our office move to a location overlooking the ECML south of Peterborough station. A number of us now take an interest in such things as the wrapped East Coast 225s and passing steam trains such as Bittern. I live in the Werrington township in the north of Peterborough and am a short walk down a lane to the revamped line from Werrington Junction to Spalding and beyond. At the end of cycle rides I often spend a while on the bridge over the ECML near Werrington Junction.

I used to live in Long Eaton from 1960 to 1969 and took walks with my brothers and father to watch the activity at the Toton marshalling yard. I remember seeing the last steam trains to use Long Eaton and Stapleford stations.

I went to a diesel gala at the Nene Valley Railway last year and have combined cycling with trips to see Tornado on that line as well as walking down the lane to use a new combined footbridge and cycle-bridge to watch Bittern steam underneath.

Just opened a progress report from Network Rail on their consultations with local Werrington residents re the flyover or dive under who are concerned at the potential increase in noise e.t.c.

I received a notice of two public meetings for local people to "Have your say on concerns in your area and about possible noise, pollution and vibration from the upgraded use of rail line adjacent to north Werrington and Peakirk." First meeting in the Hodgson Community Centre, Werrington on Friday 16th January followed by one at Peakirk Village Hall on Friday 23rd. Both to be attended by Stewart Jackson MP for Peterborough who presented petitions from Werrington and Peakirk to the House of Commons and David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.

I had the day off and decided to try and see some freight on the line. Heading west I walked as far as the ECML without seeing a single train from 14:00 until I reached the footbridge over the ECML. On the way back I saw GBRF 66715 heading towards the ECML and then GBRF 66720 heading towards Spalding. A bit of exercise made more interesting by what I saw.
