Peterborough crash: 13 hurt

At least 13 people were hurt when a bus hit the offices of a guide dog charity after a collision involving a car.


The single-decker crashed near Peterborough city centre at about 11:43 GMT, Cambridgeshire Police said.


There were no fatalities and all the casualties had what were described as minor injuries. Nobody in the building was hurt...


A Stagecoach spokesman said: "At around mid-day today (24 December) a car was involved in a collision with one of our buses on Broadway, Peterborough....


Alex Caruso, who was a passenger on the bus, said: "We didn't see where the car was coming from.


"The bus driver started braking and veered away from other cars and came to a stop in the building, but to avoid any other people and cars was a miracle."

Sounds like a lucky escape! Thoughts with those involved, especially the bus driver.

Both the same type of bus as the one in Peterborough, I suspect some may be faulty. The one that crashed into the Townhall had some sort of spring breaking before according to a passenger.

An exaggeration I think, although this one was caused by a car driver.

Yeah not directing any blame at the bus driver nor the company! Just that it seems to be a frequent occurrence of late

Suppose these events are statistically more likely to involve Stagecoach vehicles due to the size of the organisation.

The buses used are standard Enviro models of which thousands are in service up and down the country - there is very, very little chance of batches of them being 'faulty' and causing serious traffic accidents at random intervals.

A couple of months ago, ADL did recall on the 200MMC's, due to a design fault on the braking system.

This one was an example of the earlier batches however, rather than an MMC.

Witness have said the brakes didn't work.

So because a few of these buses have had problems, that warrants all Enviro's to be deemed faulty?

If they were that bad, I doubt Stagecoach, McGill's, First and other various operators would keep on buying them and buying them in such large numbers I may add.

Another Enviro bites the dust, this time a Metroline E200. (DE1324)

A bus has smashed through a supermarket after mounting a pavement.
The bus, a single-decker Metroline on the 274 route, rammed the Ozdiller store in Pratt Street in Camden, north London, shortly before 11am on Saturday.
There were no serious injuries, but the shop owner, Huseyil Ozdil, told the Evening Standard that his sister usually sits near the spot where the bus crashed and could have been “seriously injured” had she not been helping customers elsewhere in the store.
He told the paper: "Thankfully we are ok. There are no injuries but my sister has been badly shaken up by what has happened."
