Following on from the "platform length" thread, I was taking a look at the railway infrastructure around Perth on Google Maps...

What form of maintenance/stabling is carried out at the carriage/loco shed at Perth Station itself...

Also wondered if the turntable at the siding a few miles North of Perth is still in use.

Hi, Sadly I don't live in the area now...hopeful someone more local can respond. The carriage shed seems, now, to be home for DMU sets as the depot at Perth South (63A) is now a Tesco.

I'm sure there is still a stabling/refueling point at the North end of the station.

I think the turntable from the old hump yard was removed to a Preserved railway. Luckily there is still an overall roof at Perth (albeit reduced) which still gives a feel of "important station"...same designer as Carlisle. Sometimes I need to look twice at photos to just check.

Boring fact of the day though...the overall roof had a substantial clock on the North end-screen, but not South. It has always surprised me the number of photographs that have been wrongly titled..."a Glasgow to Inverness storms Northwards, blah blah"...but no clock, probably a train to Buchanan Street. The North and South approaches were very similar and both had ticket platforms.

OK, I'll get my coat.

PS..they did stable 20s and 26s there too!
