perth - fife circle - perth

Hi guys, planning on travelling around the fife circle from perth on saturday, not sure which ticket to buy tho? Thinking a return to dunfermline? Also, are you allowed to hop on and off at various stations using the 1 ticket? Thanks in advance!

If you want to do a Fife Circle, then you'll need a ticket to Inverkeithing. Break of journey is permitted on both legs of any (SOR, SVR) ticket you get.

Should be possible provided that the fare from Perth to any of the various other stations on the Fife Circle that you intend to hop on and off at, is/are not more than the fare to Dunfermline Town/Dunfermline Queen Margaret. (Fare looks to be the same from Perth to Rosyth/Cowdenbeath/Inverkeithing).

Presumably, break of journey is permitted on the outward leg of a Perth to Dunfermline return ticket? (Can't see any through day returns for this flow).

Anyone agree, or consider otherwise?

2 - No, it is permitted to buy the lowest fare ticket and break your journey at any point, provided that the route is valid (and it is, there's an easement on the Fife Circle)

Yes you can! You are permitted to break your journey on these tickets. Although one ScotRail TE disagreed with me and charged me an excess, which I then subsequently had proved wrong by members of this forum.

For future reference anyone planning on doing the LHCS service from Waverley, the cheapest ticket to get is an anytime day return to Rosyth. Note it has to be an anytime ticket due to the evening peak restrictions on off-peak tickets out of Waverley and Haymarket.

For future referrence: Buy a ticket from the ticket office FROM: Hamilton Central!

It will be valid via Queen Street and much cheaper. It also means you can get an off-peak fare on the LHCS

The price is the same, but I just think that "need a ticket to Inverkeithing" is a little misleading. Sorry if this sounds as picky but it could be significant if the fare wasn't the same. In other cases it is worth considering buying to slightly different places (e.g. if I want to do York to Sheffield I don't need a ticket to Sheffield and it is cheaper to buy further which is fine)

This is valid but guards may try to claim it isn't (this has been discussed previously) I was with someone who did that and the guard gave him a knowing look, like 'I know what you're up to' while accepting the ticket. He also had a PRIV card which may have helped (I know it shouldn't but the reality is that staff will usually treat staff of other TOCs more favourably than 'regular' passengers)

Sorry, I misinterpreted the routing guide and the easements

Perth - Rosyth is valid via either route because they both count as the 'shortest route' (via Dalgety Bay is 3/4 mile longer than via Dunfirmline , well within the 3 mile maximum)

Another example would be Poppleton to Headingley, with a 1 mile differential (via Leeds is shorter than via Harrogate), in this case there is a saving of £1.20 for day returns before 0930 to buy the extra mileage compared to just a York to Leeds. (But people 'in the know' buy to South Milford anyway, but that's beside the point!)

The Loco hauled service will NEVER end. It might go away for a while but it always comes back.
