Best done at around 20 - 30 years generally. I think the PEP's have missed the boat on that one.

There's also about to be a surplus of Mark 3-based EMUs coming onto the market that have already been refurbished to a high standard, like the Class 321 Renatus and the SWT 455s. If anyone needs secondhand EMUs that meet modern standards, those do it already.

Perhaps a heavy refurb would have been possible, but there comes a point when life-expired really -is- life-expired! Keeping it all in intensive service and a total rebuild like you suggest would have been a false economy.

They could've done similar as to what Southern did with their 313s, which I believe were even more clapped out than the 314s.

PEPs have two settings for the heating system - "off" and "nuclear".

That's very true. :lol: The nuclear setting was nice on a Winters day... then the warm heat went away whenever we stopped at a station.

Yes, I'd have thought the Thameslinky type ones would be the first choice.
