Hi,

A couple of quick questions regarding services between Penzance and St. Austell.

Firstly, what rolling stock is used? Is it purely Class 80x and Castle HSTs, or are Sprinters still used?

Would love a first class journey on a Castle HST. Is there any complimentary refreshment offering? Would the first class lounge be available at Penzance?

Many thanks in advance.

Be prepared to be disappointed, as there is no First Class on HSTs with GWR. Other than that I cannot help, but I do hope you have a good journey :)

IETs. If it’s a class 1 (ie London) service you should get complementary refreshments in 1st. If it’s a class 2 (local stopper) service then no buffet whatsoever.
Only a sleeper lounge at PZ.

Sprinters are still used to rotate stock and keep up traction knowledge, so yes all 3 of those classes are used.

The castle HSTs are 4 carriages of standard only seating, they no longer have first class.

Is first class still available on the local stoppers if they are IETs? I know that some HSTs have switched to IETs but there wasn’t first class available in the HSTs.

I’d be a bit miffed if I’d paid for a first class ticket and only had a sprinter turn up? It’s all a bit confusing for passengers.

The IETs on the local stoppers also now have seat reservations I believe which wasn’t possible if a 158 turned up? I may be wrong?

You know where you are with a 4 car Voyager 8-)

I'm fairly sure that the IETs on the locals do have First Class available, but I may be incorrect so don't take it as 100% yes!

Had a great visit to West Cornwall this week. I travelled on a few IET's including one that was headed from Penzance to Cardiff (I think) as far as St. Austell. To confirm, first class seatiing is available but as far as I could tell there was no catering.
Hope this helps.
