The wife and I have just come back from a few days in Penzance and as before we used the sleeper. But on the way back, on Sunday night (22/23 Aug) it was routed "via Yeovil with a reversal at Exeter". Why is this and which way does it go after that ? Is it up via Swindon, or via Newbury ?
I don't know because I was asleep !

It goes via Yeovil on Sunday nights to keep up crew knowledge of the route so when there are engineering works between Cary and Taunton, they can divert through Yeovil. Hope this helps!

If it's going via Yeovil and not Newbury then I would have thought it would go via Melksham to Swindon rather than running all the way to Bristol Temple Meads and reversing.

It could go Yeovil, Westbury, Newbury, Reading.
Or Yeovil, Westbury, Melksham, Swindon, Reading.

If it goes Yeovil it wont go Brizzle
The route will vary depending where engineering work is taking place, this week it has gone Yeovil, Westbury, Melksham, Swindon, Reading a few times.

Oh dear, does that mean that I can't put down the route as being "travelled over" because there's no certainty ? I think the attendant mentioned Swindon. Mind you, does a route count as being "travelled over" if one is not actually conscious at the time ?
But if you take that as far as it goes, does a route count if you happen to fall asleep whilst en route ? ! ?

The default weekday route was until recently Exeter - Taunton - Bristol Parkway - Swindon - London. Not sure if that is still the case.

The current week day route is Taunton, Westbury, Melksham, Swindon depart 0314 only staff can join, then Reading.

Was the Melksham pilotman for 2 nights 2 weeks ago.

Travelling down to Penzance ready for my recent "End to End" record attempt the route was Berks and Hants to Castle Cary ( using the Westbury avoider and the Frome avoider ) then Yeovil through to Exeter ( reverse with run-round ).

Sensible questions are not banned, but when you ask a question in post 4 when the answer is in post 3 immediately above it what do you expect .

Usually goes via Melksham as it often makes a call at Swindon in the very early hours.

However tonight it's going straight over B&H

Yep, it answered the question in post 4, how long have you been psychic?

Bet you knew I was going to ask that as well!
