Penrith to London 9 June

Hi

I'm looking to travel one way from Penrith to London on Saturday 9 June - after 4pm but flexible within reason on the specific train.

At the moment, the only fare available seems to be the unappealing standard off peak single at £106. Splitting the tickets gets the price down to £80.98 (without arriving in London in the middle of the night) - still pretty expensive.

If I was going a few weeks earlier then advance singles are available from £22.

Is it the case that Virgin haven't released their advance fares yet or does anyone have any other ticket suggestions ?

Aye, no advances released yet as the timetables haven't been confirmed - they should be fairly soon now, I think.

I've been able to book and get hold of tickets for dates several weeks beyond that (on VTWC and connections!) so I think it may just be the late weekend services where they're not sure if they'll have to tweak the timings a bit or possibly even suspend the service for any maintenance works needed.

Thanks everyone. Virgin say advance tickets go on sale on 14th May presumably when they have decided if there are any weekend engineering works.
Cumbria Life offer is interesting - I guess they are not the only ones VTWC have this offer with either. As you say it can easily pay for itself over the year.
