I have a couple of halves of Sheffield flyers one of which expires on the 12th.
I am also armed with a Derbyshire Wayfarer http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/transport_roads/public_transport/tickets_passes/rover_tickets/derbyshire_wayfarer/default.asp so I fancy having another go at the High Peaks Trail now that I have my bike fixed. (When I got back last time - having had to push it up half of the Sheep/Steep Incline near Whatsandwell - I found out the front derailieur was not going into lowest gear when I clicked for it. :() Now Yorkie mentioned that some of you had used these paths and might have suggestions.
Of course with a bike I cannot use buses although I plan an overnight stop to give myself an earlier start than 1100 so buses on one of the two days might be possible if I go for a mainly walking day - provided I can get back to pick up my bike.

Last time I used a Flyer I simply left my bike for most of the day at Grindleford and walked around and up on the moors by Hathersage.

So anyone one have any suggestions both for a route and where I might stay overnight?
Lazy days can be good!
Thanks

Can't suggest accomodation but I have done recently:

Monsal Trail - Pennine Bridleway - High Peak Trail. You could link the two by cutting across country depending on where you are based.

Also last month picked up the Monsal Trail, Pennine Bridleway before cutting across to Dove Holes, Combs, Fernilee Reservoir, Goyt Valley, Axe Edge, Earl Sterndale and back down the High Peak Trail.

But note the High Peak Trail is currently completely closed between High Peak Junction & Black Rocks (until mid August).

Have a look at cycle-route.com

Enjoy!

The High Peak Trail was signed as closed to all but walkers when I used it a couple of weeks ago and I simple portaged my bike around the short closed bit on the alternative temporary footpath around the damage.

I will follow up your suggestions.

Well you did better than me then as I couldn't find the alternative route anywhere! Headed back into Cromford and cycled up Intake Lane - only then did I see any signs as we crossed under the High Peak Trail!

Taking up both ideas I go up next Friday to cycle both the High Peak and Monsal Trails.
I get only a half day up there on the Friday so I will overnight in Hartington Hall hartington-hall
which is only about 3 miles off track @ a bargain £26 for a private room.

If I can get my timings right I will travel on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway
