penistone to seascale

doing this in early sept, ideally arriving middayish. nre planner comes up with reasonable route via Manchester, but I'm thinking Penistone - Barnsley - Leeds - Lancaster - Barrow in Furness - Seascale would be a nice run. would this mean buying tickets Penistone - Leeds and Leeds - Seascale?

A quick play with National Rail Enquiries gives various fares from Barnsley via Leeds. A Route Appleby ticket to Carlisle, plus Carlisle to Seascale looks cheaper, interestingly.

Penistone to Seascale via Barnsley, Leeds, carnforth , Barrow is the shortest route, so is permitted on one ticket.

However Trainsplit.com suggests splitting at Gargrave and Clapham , for a cheaper fare.
