Pendolino traction motor location

Dear all,

Hopefully a simple question. Are pendo traction motors axle sprung or located elsewhere on the train. Got ambushed by a know it all last night while working and wanted to be sure about the true location.

Given you can see a drive rod going to the driven bogie, my feeling is they are not axle mounted. Don't know much more than that I'm afraid though

They are mounted under the body, towards the body ends but inboard of the bogies in the same way voyager motors are fitted. As commented above you can see the drive shafts linking the final drive and the bogies to the motor

Do you get much noise from the motors on these? You can't hear much from the outside, but the only time I've been on one was full and standing and I think I was in an unpowered trailer.

You can if you are sat pretty much over the top of them but they are much quieter than the traditional EE507!

The same with voyager motors, they can be heard but you need to be sat in the vestibule furthest away from the engine. The cab ends are a good spot as long as there is no catering noise
