Can anyone advise how long the cctv recordings of any journey on a Pendolino are retained for before being either overwritten or deleted?
I'd be very surprised if it's as long as 28 days though as most issues would be reported/discovered way before that. I don't know for a fact but would expect it to be no more than seven days.I would have thought it would be more than that, something like 28 days.
Issues can come to light well after the initial 24 hours after a journey, what if there was a serious crime committed that wasn't reported immediately
Airliner CVRs can store several hundred hours of audio. FDRs typically store around 30 minutes because there are very few crashes that take more than that long to occur. Rather than increasing the duration, they have used the massive increase in capacity to store move parameters. A FDR of the seventies would record three or four parameters (e.g. altitude, speed, heading) where a modern on stores several hundred.Indeed they were one of the first, storage has increased exponentially over the last decade and a half and they may have been upgraded at some point. Some airline black boxes still today have insufficent capacity to record the whole duration of the flight, helicopters until recently haven't even carried any recording equipment because of the weight.
