Please answer a question for me which I should really know the answer to but I don't.

Do the doors on Pendolino's open automatically or do they have to be opened by pressing the 'open door' button?

The reason I ask is earlier this evening I received a text off a friend (not a railway buff) saying he was enroute to Runcorn as the train doors never opened when at Stafford (his stop). He had caught the 1707 Euston-Liverpool. As yet I don't know whether he pressed the button or not or if he did and the doors still didn't open.

Thank you.

Yes you have to press the open button. Is he used to London Underground or something?

They do take a few seconds to open though as the steps move in to place.

Thanks
He is getting on in years and Pendolino travel is something new to him and his wife. He travels very infrequently by train.
