So this might seem like an obvious question, with the paper tests are you given a pencil or a pen and is it worth bringing your own for the assessment day?

Thanks all,

Pencil and pen, they do provide both but if you want to take your own there is nothing stopping you :)

OPC/TOC/FOC (whoever is running it) will provide pen and pencil for each candidate and will stipulate which has to be used for each test. Failure to listen and adhere to what they tell you is viewed as the candidate being unable to listen and take instruction (a basic but much needed characteristic a trainee needs to have to learn and one a driver needs when being given instructions by a signaller).
Same as anything in the railway.......do as you're instructed to, ask them to repeat if you didn't hear what they said.

My experience with the Opc is that do exactly what you're told, when you are told!

One of the candidates in my assessment session held on to his pencil for a couple of seconds after we was instructed to put them down. The assesor went mental at them and stormed up to them and scribbled out a good few final answered questions!!!!
