Penalty points acquired during bus driving

Do bus drivers typically acquire penalty points while bus driving? If so, do bus companies care about them? Obviously if you get a driving ban you lose your job at least temporarily, but do they let you resume bus driving after the ban finishes?

I've seen bus driving jobs advertised for applicants 'with fewer than six points'. It may well be an insurance company restriction?

Just the same as driving a car it will affect your employer, depending on what they are for. Mostly they affect the insurance; typically 3 to 6 is not a problem but go above that and it will be. Also, depending on what they are for can have an impact too, such as drink driving or mobile phone use.

It can also go beyond the employee and to the traffic commissioner if you gain points and they may wish to apply additional penalties on your license. Being caught on a mobile phone will give you a ban from driving from the traffic commissioner.

I'm particularly in whether bus drivers get points during the actual bus driving, or are they more likely to get points while driving their own car when not at work. Bus drivers seem to speed a lot less than the average motorist, but they drive a lot more than the average motorist.

As with any kind of driving, different drivers take a different approach to speed, acceleration and traffic signals.

A bus driver approaching a green traffic signal which changes to amber has less time to bring their bus to a stand with responsibility to not cause passenger discomfort by braking, but also a longer vehicle to get past the lights before they go red.

But it should be noted that any penalties imposed by the Traffic Commissioner will only apply to the driver "vocational" entitlement

Too many variables but I do know some coach drivers who have picked up fines for yellow box infringements in the course of their employment.
