Hi everyone,

I was issued with a penalty fine today of £78.40 by GA at Stansted for travelling on a childs ticket (which i paid in full immediately at the station).

They took my details down as well.

As I paid the fine in full immediately will any further action be taken or will it be case closed?

This is my first ever offence and I haven’t done this before. The reason I did was because i need a cheap last minute ticket for a family emergency.

Thanks!

as you have paid the Penalty Fare that is the end of the matter on this occasion, however you details have been taken so you are now on the railway companies radar

As only courts can issue a fine, I assume this was in fact a Penalty Fare.

Paying it means that the matter is closed, yes.

Greater Anglia cannot take any action in respect of today's incident.

However, they could audit your online ticket purchasing history and if this identifies that you've purchased child tickets before then they could contact you about this. Purchasing child tickets isn't illegal but using them is (if you aren't a child!). It's difficult to see how GA could prove that you used child tickets but that won't necessarily stop them from contacting you.

If you needed a cheap ticket because of shortage of funds, how did you manage to immediately pay the penalty fare? Bit of an own goal if you could afford a full ticket, as doing this has cost you more.
