Hi can anyone help with my issues with the penalty fare,

This morning I was late to class, so I got train since it is faster, I traveled form preston to leyland. I had accidentally purchased the wrong ticket. I purchased a child's instead of a adult. When stopped by the ticket inspector I explained I had purchased the wrong ticket as my sister who is a child had been using my phone to travel. I was told to write an appeal

Please post a copy of the Penalty fare notice with your name removed. Your only line of appeal will be a technical one.

Not on the appeal itself but

How old are you?

If over 16 but under 18 you should consider getting a 16-17 Saver Railcard - as that then entitles you to a 50% discount on your fares (ie child fare rate but AIUI you don't buy child tickets), I think this includes season tickets at 50% off the adult rate if you go to school / college by train every day that might be a further saving.

The penalty fare notice looks compliant to me, unless anyone else spots anything this should be paid and taken as a lesson!

I agree it should be paid, OP may wish to appeal anyway if they need more time to get the money together.

I wrote a appeal anyway, can you tell me if this sounds good or not

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to appeal the notice I received regarding my journey from Preston to Leyland.

This morning, I was running late for class and chose to take the train as it was the quickest option. While purchasing my ticket on my phone, I accidentally selected and purchased a child ticket instead of an adult ticket. When the revenue office in Leyland checked my ticket at the end of the journey, I immediately realised that the wrong ticket had been purchased.

My younger sister occasionally uses my phone to purchase tickets for her own travel. Because of this, there have been occasions where child tickets have been purchased through my account. Unfortunately, I made the mistakes of not turning my ticket to adults.

I would like to sincerely apologise for this mistake. It was not my intention to travel with an incorrect ticket or avoid paying the correct fare. I fully understand the importance of purchasing the correct ticket before travelling and will ensure I check this more carefully to make sure, I never make the same mistake.

I have also attached my ticket purchase history, to shows that I regularly purchase adult ticket for when I’m traveling anywhere including between Preston and Leyland.

I would be more than willing to pay the correct adult fare for the journey, and I would be very grateful if you could please take my explanation into consideration when reviewing my appeal.

Thank you for taking the time to review my appeal, and I appreciate your understanding.

Yours faithfully,
My name at the bottom but I don't want to post it to the public

You can submit that if you want to buy yourself a bit of a time to get the money together but the chances of the appeal being successful are basically zero.

No don't tell the company you've a history of purchasing child tickets on the same account! Don't give them ideas.
