He only realised at the time that I didn’t have the railcard, however I don’t think he realised that I had a child ticket, so issued me a penalty fair just for not having my railcard with me

So I had both a railcard selected and also a child ticket if that makes sense

You can’t have. Railcards only apply to adults or there at least must be an adult in the party when buying the ticket.

Thank you for this advice, would they be able to bring it back up if they later discovered it was a child ticket? Also could I just ask you of possible reasons as to why penalty fares don’t appear online if you know? And is this a common thing you’ve seen on here?
See my post #19

I don’t know why the penalty fare wouldn’t show on line.

No it doesn’t, at it’s not possible for a single traveller to select both a railcard and child option.

Unless you tell us exactly what ticket you held, from where to where, at what cost, and what railcard/child options were selected, we can’t be more specific.

Bluntly, if your user name is your real name, any attempt to anonymise this is futile - it won’t take a second for your case to be pulled and reviewed if someone from SWR revenue protection happens to read the thread (and we know that some rev protection staff do read the forum, hence why we strongly advise anonymity.)

To make sense of this you would need to upload copies of the ticket you showed that resulted in the penalty fare being issued. And a copy of the penalty fare paperwork given to you. With your personal info removed.

But you are not keen to do that so hard to know what the staff member did or why.

It said on the notice ‘penalty fare’ and it wasn’t all the way from London to Liverpool because I stopped to see my friend then bought a new ticket to get from my friends to London a few hours later. They told me the price of the penalty fare would be £50 plus the amount of money it would cost to get from where I got on to London, which was around £25. Would that make sense in that case for it to be £75 or should it have been £100 from the start?
Was it exactly £75?

What stations are named on the penalty fare notice?

Yes it was. If the penalty fare is paid within 21 days, then it should be £50 plus the price of a full price adult ticket, I just looked it up online. So it would only cost me £100 + if I left it over 21 days

That's correct, although we're still at a loss as to exactly what has happened so detailed and personal advice can't be given.

I’m afraid the constant dodging of questions means I’m unable to provide useful advice. I’m out.
