Just seen an article on BBC London news giving publicity to the idea of making a linear park (or garden) on the old Peckham coal line viaduct. It would be interesting to do along the lines of New York's High Line, but not sure if there is the will to do much for the area in City Hall or Westminster.

I'm ashamed to say I lived in Peckham for almost 25 years and I'd never heard of this line until now.

Never heard it called that, and I've been struggling to find a photo online. I imagine it refers to the former coal depot which was accessed from the Brighton side East of the station. The RCH map (see Wikipedia entry) says it was joint LNW/Midland - one of several such depots in S London but that's off topic. Don't think it will be much like New York!

The photo I remembered is in an article from the Nov 60 Railway Magazine which is available on the ever informative semg website; it shows the coal depot well. There was a hoist to take wagons to ground level for unloading, rather than coal drops NER style.

Pictures on the TV show it to be the width previously occupied by additional tracks adjacent to the existing elevated line through Peckham.

Is this line part of the yard which is now occupied by a scaffolding firm which can be seen when approaching on the up?I am sure I have seen a couple of rails embedded in the ground down there.
