Good morning all

Im on the hunt for yet another least used station and i find myself in derby , can anybody advise if peartree still has the gates you have to call up to get opened (i know theres no services today) would just like to tick another station off on my travels.

Peartree - Station not accessible?

Slightly miffed this afternoon as I missed the train at the sparcely served Peartree Station as I couldn't access the platform. There is a locked gate and an intercom which wasn't answered!

This sounds like an issue for the new East Midlands mayor to get on to given she says she will get public transport improved across her area!

The access gates were certainly in place last August when I stayed in a shared house in that area for a BLS tour and made use of the station on the bank holiday Monday.

Probably the easiest way to visit the station (not like there is much there) is to arrive on one of the trains which call there, although not somewhere to hang around for long

I did Peartree last month and the gates were there. I would advise alighting a train there and using the button to exit the station. When I attempted to board there I failed to gain access despite using the intercom/help point.
Crossing over the road to Sainsburys and catching an Arriva service 4 back to the City is an ideal plan.

Presume alighting at Peartree and then crossing over to the other platform to return the way you've just come (maybe half an hour later), would necessitate exiting the gates on one side and then entering through a second set of gates on the far side?

Yes it would, there's no bridge or other way of crossing.

When I did it last year there was no problem gaining entry about 20 minutes before my train - someone answered the buzzer almost straightaway. Had walked from Derby Midland and while it’s not exactly an AONB, I’ve seen a lot worse.

I agree. It's just standard inner city type area with much that goes with that (good and not so good)- but the equivalent in bigger cities would be more ropey I would say. Quick look on streetview shows some of the homes nearby look reasonably desirable in fact.

If it had abetter train service it would no doubt start of virtuous circuit of urban regeneration and investment....given the ease of connecting through to HS2 in Birmingham for example

Peartree station is an interesting pick, haha. Last time I was there, it did have those gate systems. Not sure if they've changed, but it's worth a visit to find out.

It certainly did last month when I visited.
