At the moment I live in the Watford area and know what I can and can not do with a off peak all zones travel card.

Next week I'm moving to Hemel Hempstead. Is this a permitted route, with an off peak travel card.?

Catch a Metropolitan train to Watford Zone 9. (I sometimes meet my daughter at Baker Street and part commute with her) then walk across to Watford Junction and make sure I travel on the Southern service to Hemel Hempstead.

I travel for leisure so times aren't an issue, I don't want to give LM more than I have to.

Looking at a couple of rail company websites they only appear to issue 1 to 6 travelcards linked to a day return. Watford Met is in zone 8.

Likewise with BR Fares, a normal out boundary travelcard to the usual 'zones 1-6' is all that's listed.

Thank you for your replies.

Just a thought, if I were to use Oyster has a separate payment between Moor Park and Watford Met Station (£1.70) , then would an off peak ticket still be valid from Watford Junction, to Hemel Hempstead using Southern during the peak time?

Yes but you would need to get off!

The easiest option would probably be to get an Off-Peak Watford Jn - Zones 1-6 +789 Travelcard and then an Off-Peak Day Return from Hemel Hempstead to Watford Junction which would be £22.30. A little more than a Hemel travelcard but easier than the Oyster! This would allow you to get ANY train from Watford to Hemel.

Yes. The £19.10 Off-Peak Day Travelcard Hemel Hempstead - London Zones 1-6 carries the time restriction:
APPLICABLE DAYS: Mondays to Fridays.

OUTWARD TRAVEL: Not valid on trains timed to arrive at London Terminals or Kensington Olympia after 04:29 and before 10:00.

RETURN TRAVEL: Not valid on trains timed to depart London Terminals after
16:49 until 19:01.
The Southern trains Watford Jn to Hemel Hempstead do not "depart London Terminals" at all, so they can be used at any time.

I think LM will get most of the out boundary (if not all) part of theTravelcard, and probably the largest share of the rail part of the Travelcard element, so rest assured travelling on the southern services will not lose LM a penny.

Expect hassle, and lots of it, at the Hemel Hempstead gateline.
Why? I'm not aware of any reports of Off-Peak One Day Travelcards failing to operate the ticket gates during the weekday afternoon peak at any of the WCML stations at which Southern trains call.

I have got off a Southern service at Watford Jct and didn't encounter any problems during the evening peak, with an off peak ticket.

At some point I will need to try a Southern service to Hemel Hempstead during the evening peak.
