Peak/off peak confusion

Or more generally the issue is that there is no one definition of "peak". On the same train it's possible to encounter all sorts of Off Peak tickets with different restrictions. Some valid on departures 0930, some valid from 1000, some valid on arrivals after 1000, some with afternoon peak restrictions, some without, and some that aren't restricted on Fridays. It's a confusing mess.
The whole thing needs simplifying - and not with a few changes to the wording, it needs simplifying with the mass use of the 'Delete' key.

Many years ago I phoned up Scotrail to ask what peak meant and had to be put forward twice to get someone who was prepared to try to answer the question properly.
That letter was clearly written by someone who keyed it into a journey planner, saw that it was valid but didn't understand why, so wrote some waffle about an easement
