What are the chances of working for a transport giant in their rail division wanting to earn a PCV license being seconded part time to their bus division to earn the PCV license?

It's only a theoretical question mind you!!!

Very possible, Stagecoach do it

Do you mean train drivers who can drive buses too? How many train crew have a PCV license I wonder ?

Something related which I recently found out is that tram drivers in Blackpool must also be able to drive a bus.

That's what I got told by the driver on the rail replacement service yesterday, seems Arriva, Stagecoach and First all do it but it's news to me.

Certain key management roles often require holding of at least a PCV licence
That way they normally work in the rail division
However, when required they can drive or move buses
Furthermore it allows movement within the company, say from coach to rail to coach, and so on

I had always assumed that the natural progression was from bus to railway... not the other way around! That's certaintly the impression I got from how bus drivers used to look at me on my way into my old job.

Very true but if you want to drive a minibus you need a PCV license so in turn if you want to drive a group of fellow colleagues for a boozing session, you need the license.
