PC Trouble...

Basically, the problem is thus;

I had an error (usual one) with MacAfee, meaning I cannot connect to the net. So un-installed it as I have done many times. I re-booted and re-installed it as normal, but it didn't work. I tried to un-install it but that didn't work. Now I have a knackered half version of MacAfee on my PC that I can't get rid of. Until I get rid of it and try re-installing again, I can't get on the net.
I tried to delete the files manually, but whenever I do, I get a message saying “cannot delete as the files may be in use or protected” or words to that effect.

I’ve tried a system restore, and used a 3rd party uninstaller, and both don’t work.

Any ideas on how I can delete the files?

Doesn't work, forgot to mention that. It's still in the list, but when I click it nothing happens. I think it's because there is no uninstall there because it didn't install correctly. :?

When you re-install, is there a "Repair" option, or does it tell you to un-install the previous one first?

Have you tried deleting all the references to MacAfee in the registry?

Memorex: No there is not option for that unfortunately

rich on the bottom tool bar next to the time there should be a red m icon, right click on it , go in to virus scan and there is a list of options in there, including help, disable and about hope that helps

Go into safe mode without networking and I doubt McAfee will be running. Then try deleting it.

I tried Safe Mode but can't remember if it was Without networking or not. It didn't work. I'll give it another go.

BTW, you may be wondering "how is he posting here if his net is broke?" - Dad's PC.

Safe mode is without networking.... unless you use the handy option of Safe Mode With Networking

But when I tried Safe Mode with networking, the networking didn't work.

Rich, have you tried a registry cleaner?
Also, it may help if you could post a screenie of the running processes in safe mode (In task manager, under processes)
