Paying using two cards

I did search but various search engines kept referring to the Two Together Railcard.
I have to book a last minute trip and the balance on one card won't cover the entire journey.
Apart from going to a rail station, is there a way to use two cards to pay for one journey?

You could, on some sites, use one to buy a voucher for the amount you want to use, which you then use for the purchase leaving the balance to be paid with the other card. However, I'm not entirely sure what the relevance of the Two Together Railcard is.

To spell this out, does the OP believe that in order to use a Two Together Railcard, the tickets for travel need to be in some way “linked” by purchasing them in a single transaction?

Other than at a booking office it is rather hard to purchase them in anything other than pairs.

No, I think the OP was trying to search something like "paying train with two cards" and getting the railcard come up as the answer.

Try this instead:

Paying for a rail ticket using two different bank cards

Even the Google AI slop overview search results doesn't mention the two together with that search term, and lots about the actual subject.

How short notice ?
Can you pay off part of the balance of one card online? Depending on all of the account paid from, the card provider and the time of day that the payment is sent the additional free balance could be available in a few hours or at least before noon the next day.
At least for my credit card while you can not add funds if there is no outstanding balance providing there is an outstanding balance you can overpay: e.g. £500 limit, £80 outstanding balance and want to make a purchase of £600 if £750 is paid the £600 purchase can be made and £70 is free for other purchases.
