Pay to collect tickets??

think they may be getting mixed up with the £1 booking fee some web sites charge

I don't know where our OP got that they are claiming that someone had to pay a pound for ticket collection - the thread linked to is about someone not given the option to TOD but had to use print at home. {PS - I may be missing something}

Does anyone know where I can print my train tickets before the 28th Dec? I just booked them and thought I would be able to collect but I have to print them and don't have access to a printer? Are any internet cafes open or any other ideas do you know? : (
Any ideas would be most appreciated!

I wasn't given an option - I bought them via trainline. I live in Woodsetas if anyone knows where I could get access to a printer that would be really helpful as the Sheffield library is shut

CrossCountrytrains.co.uk now charge a £1 booking fee on some tickets when using TOD.

This is what they had to say about it on there Facebook page.

We have introduced a £1 charge for customers choosing to collect tickets from machines at stations – but only if they are buying an Advance ticket and if there is an e-ticket option is available. If its not an Advance ticket or there is no e-ticket for that journey then collecting tickets at stations is free. The charge will hopefully encourage more customers buying Advance tickets to use the increasingly popular e-ticket option, saving themselves time at the station, and also help to cover some of the costs other train companies charge us for using their machines.

We will always offer a free method for customers to retrieve tickets purchased through our website.

Edit : Just determined this may not be relevant if this is not payable at the station

^^think that is rather mean charging for collecting you stations at tvm - and getting you to waste your ink on a home printer...

There are ways round it, usually it's simply a case of buy from a different company's website!

It's an own goal for CrossCountry.

East Coast are not charging for TOD but are charging for postage where TOD is available. But if you book from a station that does not have TOD (e.g. if I book from Poppleton rather than York) you are not charged. If the cost from the minor station is higher, then a child single from Devonport to Dockyard in your basket reduces the cost.

I live in the SouthEastern area and was amazed to find out a year or two ago that they charged £1 to collect internet ordered tickets (including those for SouthEastern services) from their own ticket machines. So now I always buy my tickets from Southern because they have never charged and I can use the same machine at my local station. I think that SouthEastern may have dropped the charge now, but it was very short sighted of them to introduce it in the first place.

Several train companies and online rail tout sites have been investigated by the ASA.

Almost all are guilty of one scam or another.

East Coast did well to slate NX for the seat fee.

The Trainline Business is basically the same as The Trainline however businesses can integrate it into their intranet sites. Trainline Business charges £1 to pick up tickets from a standard TVM (one in a train station) but it's free if you collect from the Trainline Business TVM located in the organisation's offices.

No, if you are travelling from York and want to get the tickets posted to you but don't want to pay the £1 fee put in the origin as Poppleton (which doesn't have any ticket vending machines, so no charge for postage). The price for an advance ticket from X to Poppleton will be either the same or slightly above the price for a ticket from X to York (or the other way around).

I just tried Knutsford-Birmingham Advance Singles and it is £1 for First Class, £6 for Special delivery or Free if I collect it from a ticket machine, which Knutsford does not have so that option is only of use if you're near another station that does have them before your journey.

For Stockport-Birmingham Advance Singles the ticket machine collection option has a charge of £1, the same charges for postage apply.

Sorry, I was referring to the situation with EC, never use the XC website myself. On the EC website it will post to you for free if the origin station does not have a TVM.
