Don't know whether this should be in a speculative thread, but the optimism of building this viaduct
with provision for an eventual second track is amazing! (If I have interepreted it correctly.) Given the state of the approaches (and the cost of doubling them) is there any way a double track bridge could be justified? Maybe as a level passing loop that you don't have to quarry into the local bedrock?
Maybe the piers/towers just had to be that wide for stability and there was no point putting the rail spans along the middle?
What do you think?
