I saw one a few weeks ago at platform 11 at Clapham Junction that was similar to thruud's tale. I was awaiting the 0849 to Weybridge, however the 0845 Weymouth was using platform 11, a single 444. The doors began to close and then I noticed a man holding them open, saying "I'm going to Bournemouth, but there's a lady just coming down the stairs I'm waiting for", the dispatcher looked up the stairs to the footbridge, then told him no-one was coming, in all this time the guard still had not released the doors again, so he was forced to give up and wait for another train. Net result 2 minute delay to the Weymouth. My Weybridge was slightly late as a result, but caught up time by Surbiton.

Apart from the fact that it was very different - the passenger failed to catch his train, wasn't threatening or abusive, the police weren't called and the delay was minimal. Unusual for Weymouth trains to use platform 11 - had it been crossed from the fast line which caused people to need to change platforms?

I think that is what may have happened, I have seen quite a few on Sunday mornings going from platform 11, like the 0823 Exeter service. He did get annoyed with the staff, but they handled it well. Most SWT staff at Clapham Junction are pretty good anyway. I have previously had instances where the staff have told me my local will go from platform 11, then platform 9 then back to 11 again.

Another tale I had is just two days ago as I write this. The 1752 Clapham Junction to Littlehampton was rolling into platform 13, a full 12 car service and on time. A chap drinking and wearing a hi-viz coat realised he was standing in the wrong place for the front coach and proceeded to walk between the yellow line and the train. He even lent onto the train at one point as it was moving. Luckily he didn't fall, but he managed to barge past several of us who were waiting for that train. We all got seats, but had he slipped, there could have been serious problems.

I don't see why, rudeness has no class barriers, in my experience!

Anyway, having a First Class train ticket is no indication of class (in any sense of the word), it just means one bought a First Class ticket. The Railway is quite egalitarian in that sense - we will sell a First Class ticket to anybody!

Did the person refuse to move when you asked them? I sit in reserved seats because it's often the case that the person will not turn up to that seat. Likewise when I have a reserved seat I will often seat somewhere else. As long as they move when asked to, I don't see the problem.

Oh YES, that drives me potty. I am so tempted to say "did you know you can silence the key press tone?". It's usually fairly elderly ladies though, who probably wouldn't know what I meant.

Was sat at a table on a a train yesterday so I could charge my phone as the airline seats have no sockets, when a passenger came marching down the carriage and said get out my family are having this table, when I said I was here first he said I'm taking up a table on my own, now had he asked me nicely I may have considered moving but with manners like that he was told in no uncertain terms where to go.

Jeez thats just nuts. Reserve it then.

Like you if someone had asked really nicely and had kids etc I would probably moved but you dont get to have a 4 seater just because there are 4 of you unless you reserved it. First come first served.

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
I'm a large lad so I'll push the button and stand right in the middle of the door so no-one can barge past. If theres someone slap bang in front standing on the platform and I can't safely step down I'll stand on the train and look at them. They soon move.

That works as a conductor trying to follow the company rule of stepping onto the platform before releasing the doors, too.

The ones that really get my goat are those that try and get on a terminating train before it's emptied out. The train coming in forms their outward train, but they have to sit in 'their' seat as it's where they always sit. Hundreds trying to get off, and a few selfish f***wits trying to get on.
The ones that also annoy me are those that sprint down the platform with seconds to spare, because their station exit is at the front of the train, so that is where they will board. There could be a horde of flesh eating locusts coming in to attack, but that is where they must board and leave, and by god, that IS where they will board and leave. They usually have the obligatory suit and trainers on.
Plus those that turn up as you're given the tip to shut the doors with a cup of coffee in each hand and enough luggage to fill the hold of a jumbo jet, then look at you accusingly because you've DARED to depart on time.

Shoes on seats - if they are younger, generally a stern look will do it. I'm quite a big imposing bloke (6ft and 18 stone) and the younger ones take my stern look as "shift them or I'll eat you" I think. For the older sorts, I'll generally go with something like "I'd be careful having your feet on the seats, the last guy that did that had really dirty boots on", with a look of distaste on my face. Confuses the hell out of them but usually has the desired effect.

I was once sitting across the aisle from my friends (I think there were five of us, so I was the odd one). I was in the aisle seat so I could talk to them, and the window seat beside me was empty. I did have a seat reservation, and the train was quite full.

There was a parent and kid looking for somewhere to sit. A 'good samaritan' type noticed them, and told me I had to move so they could sit together. When I declined because I wanted to sit by my friends, he started appealing to the other passengers in the carriage, pointing at me and saying "Can you believe this?"

This all happened a while ago, but the memory still ****es me off. What a dick!

A friend recounted to me yesterday an experience he had in South London. His train pulled into the station at morning rush hour, the doors began to close. Nothing happens. The driver asks people to stand clear of the closing doors, still nothing happens.
It becomes obvious that in his carriage, two 'chav like' young men are forcibly holding the doors open and refusing to move.

The driver comes down and asks them to move - their response "we ain't moving till our brother gets here, then the train can go'. Driver calls the police, passengers plead, beg, ask the two individuals to move, and they repeatedly and menacingly told passengers to sit down and shut up, in more intimidatory language. Eventually after 7 minutes (!) the brother arrives, gets on the train, at which point the doors are shut.

Sadly the police hadnt arrived and the driver chose to depart rather than further delay the train, meaning these individuals were essentially rewarded for their selfishness. I can only hope the police are able to identify and punish them in due course.

So there were two people causing the delay and how many passengers on the train? I'm not, of course, advocating assault or violence but three or four passengers ganging up on each of them might have been enough to force them off the train.
