BEWILDERED passengers were left stranded on a train as two signalmen had a punch-up — over a pint of MILK.

Workmates Trevor Vallis and Tony Peckham had bickered for weeks about the temperature of their signal box fridge.

Trevor, 57, arrived at work on the day of the bust-up to find he couldn’t make a cup of tea as his milk was frozen.

A row began and it is claimed burly Tony, 33, punched his colleague in the face. Silver-haired Trevor was left nursing cuts and bruises.

Meanwhile the unsuspecting travellers waited on their train a few hundred yards up the track in Deal, Kent.

Just days earlier Trevor, from Broadstairs, had complained to his workmate after a TOMATO he put in the fridge was left rock hard.

Both men have now been suspended from their £30,000-a-year jobs as bosses carry out an investigation.

A railway insider said: “We’re all in stitches. Nobody can believe Tony and Trevor ended up fighting over a pint of milk.

“They are two of the most mild-mannered men you could ever wish to meet. But Trevor became convinced Tony was turning down the fridge on purpose to freeze all his food.”

Trevor and Tony, who lives with his parents in Ramsgate, are expected to face a disciplinary hearing in coming weeks.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “We can confirm an incident occurred. But it seems it’s just a storm in a teacup.”

They said there was no major disruption to London Bridge trains.

Transport Police attended the station, but took no further action.

That's hilarious. I used to live just by that line a little further up towards Walmer. Passed that box many times on the way to school. Ah, nostalgia...

They're not all on that rate - there are various grades and they ofteen work 12 hour shifts. Very responsible job and not one that I would relish.

Drivers may curse signalmen but like most jobs - unless you've done it you can't really comment.

A £100,000 investigation running to 200 pages has concluded that the signaller concerned mistake the frozen food compartment for the milk bottle holder.
