For a brief period from 1980 onwards BR ran a shuttle service on Saturdays (and occasional Sundays) from Peterborough station to Orton Mere station on the Nene Valley Railway using the Fletton Loop. It tended to be a Met-Cam unit, but sometimes a Class 150 made the trip.
When it first began there was only one platform at Orton Mere so the unit had to shunt to allow the NVR train to stop at the station. The train-staff was a piece of copper pipe with a small loop attached so it could be hung on a hook in the station supervisors office at Peterborough.
I'll try and find a photo if possible. The service ended once the extension to Peterborough Nene Valley was established.
