Passed DMI with Southeastern for Grove Park

hi there, first post on the forum.


I have passed my MMI 30th April and DMI 10th May with Southeastern last week. Receiving an email from recruitment Monday saying I’ve passed and will be contacted when a position comes up. However in the interviews both mentioned there’s a start date in July so obviously exciting stuff and everything has happened very quickly.
Was interested to see if anyone is in the same boat? And if anyone knows what to expect next.

Hi cameron well done mate on getting through, could i please ask what things do i need to research for the MMI and DMI interviews if you dont mind telling me, apologies i know its off track of what you are asking but any info would be massively appreciated

Thanks guys.
So basically with the MMI you will go to one of their recruitment centres. Tonbridge for example, when you arrive you will be given 6 questions based around experiences that are similar to the role of a train driver. For example, give an example of when you have had to handle an emergency or pressured situation. You will answer a brief answer to each 6 questions and the interviewer will ask questions based on your examples. A bit of a grilling but just be honest and you real life situations you have been in. Be as honest as you can. DMI is like your typical interview, two managers and it’s questions like ‘what can you tell us about Southeastern’’why do you want to be a train driver’ so just do your research on the TOC and the values and aims. They also email you information about SPADs which is signals passed at danger, a 1 page information sheet and they will ask questions about it. Be well presented etc as you would expect for any interview!!

Phoned recruitment yesterday. To be told that all of Grove Park training spaces have been filled up for the rest of year but wasn’t 100% sure. She said she would get the recruitment officer to phone me... never phoned back. Such a let down when they sped through my interviews and telling me of start dates in July and throughout the year! Frustrating but suppose it’s very typical of rail recruitment

Very frustrating but atleast you are just waiting for a start date! Hope you won’t have to wait much longer.

Thanks for your advice above. Pending my medical results I’ll be starting at Grove Park as a Shunter driver at the start of July. I’m absolutely buzzing and shows that even at the age of 21 it’s still possible!
