Party Battle Buses

It looks like the Lib Dems are using a Yutong this time round.

I don't see the point in making any real fuss about it, but it does seem odd that party battle buses are always foreign models. It was kind of ironic that the "£350M For The NHS Brexit Bus" was German built however! Having a quick look on google i can't even find one example in recent times where a political part used a UK built vehicle.

Edit: I forgot the Brexit Party had the open top Gemini that crashed off the road.

All three major UK parties are using Yutongs. Tories a TC9, Labour a GT12 and the Lib Dems an electric TCe12 (although they also have a Van Hool Alicron for outwith Greater London - i.e. outwith the range and charge point of the Tce12).

I think you have to go back to the 90s now for the last time a British coach was used as a Battle Bus. I can't recall any Plaxtons beyond the Supreme IV used in 1983 by Margaret Thatcher. I do remember the Duple 340 being used by basically everyone for a while. The SDP-Liberals had matching yellow ones in 87, and the Tories also used one in 87 and again in 92 and 97.

Looks like a load of garbage. It might have been commissioned, but never used - all the other articles on it's sale show Mrs T on board or at the wheel, despite the fact all the photos of her are onboard the Plaxton Supreme...

A group campaigning for UK to remain in EU, but not affiliated to any political party, was featured on BBC SW news in Cornwall yesterday. Its battlebus is an RMA class forward entrance Routemaster.

RMA 62, one of the buses previously used by the Greens. It was parked in the centre of Penzance for much of the afternoon, with anti-Brexit messages. Given that both Lib Dem and the Greens are standing in the constituency (St Ives), despite the LDs only losing to the Tory by 320 votes last time, i'd imagine some voters will be confused. It was notable that the LD candidate Andrew George, the former MP, wasn't present but could instead be found in the Lib Dem temporary offices a mere couple of hundred yards from there! The bus was off to Yorkshire next.

I only met her, several decades ago, in an official capacity, she being the candidate for Maidstone and the Weald in the Conservative cause, hoping to replace the old buffer MP Sir John Wells. I worked at the Maidstone HQ of the Kent Probation and Aftercare Service, and some of us drew the short straw to show the (not so old then, in theory) biddy around. She was rude and graceless, so unlike John Wells, and was obviously totally opposed to most of our work. I formed an instantaneous dislike which has only been enhanced by her every appearance over the years. As much personal as political.
