Partners TOC card & Priv

Hi having received my partners TOC travel pass and non protected Priv I would appreciate some clarification on what she can and can't use it to do.

I fully understand she can't use it to commute but how about the following scenarios-

1) She has a monthly Beckenham to London terminals paper ticket but on ocassions she will board a fast at Vic to travel to Bromley South to meet her mother or go to the shops. I presume this journey is ok to use her TOC card for as it is not part of a regular commute?

2) She has a friend who has moved down to the Kent coast- If she wanted to go down to stay there for the weekend after work would that journey be ok as it is for leisure? How about the journey on Monday morning back from the coast to her office-is that ok as again its not a regular commute?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Yes to the first one.

The second one is trickier, but as long as these are ad hoc journeys on a one-off basis, there shouldn't be any issue.

1) This is not entirely clear, to be honest. But buying a ticket for this is unlikely to cause any problems.

2) This is more clearly covered in the Conditions of Issue and Use on the RDG website:

A TOC Privilege Card permits privilege rate leisure only travel. It must not be used for residential, duty or business travel or for trading purposes. However, it may be used to purchase privilege-rate tickets for travel between a temporary place of residence and place of employment for a period not exceeding 14 days.

This is on the basis that the friend's home is a "temporary place of residence".

For peace of mind, suggest they always carry their season ticket with them and also some evidence of their home address. If challenged, they can then easily produce evidence to back up the claim they have a full price season ticket for their regular commute from their home address and that this is an ad-hoc leisure journey.

How about if using the TOC or partner TOC I work for-presumably the same rules apply except of course she won't need to buy any tickets (except for her existing season)

You are probably right, unless any rules apply that you would be advised of when the passes are/were issued.

Unfortunately the information given in the issuing letter doesn't answer any of my queries.
