Part time freight driver

Hi, does anybody have any info on the above title?
I have heard about this before but more through a bloke I know being an agency driver (which he now hates) however a freight toc is advertising for drivers on a 2 day a week basis based on the 4 day working week circa £30,000 a year
Sounds interesting but not sure how it would work?
Can any body shed a bit more light on the situation.

Not sure what there is to say other than you are employed the same as a full time driver but only 1, 2 or 3 days a week...obviously for the relevant wage. They generally tell you what days you will work though as you probably wont have a fixed roster. So you could work Monday and Tuesday one week then Thursday and Friday the next week, or Monday and Thursday the next etc.

No agencies drivers on railway. Thats truck driving.

100% is agency drivers, spoke to one in Wembley mess room not to long ago.

Agency, was working a box train for one company and then on a ballast the next night for another, says he covers GB, DRS, Db and FL, I’d never heard of it before I spoke to him.

I agree, some of the shifts can be bad enough, never mind them being all over the place for different company’s.

Thanks mate, I didn't know if you had right to annual leave, sickness, pension etc? I'm passanger service at the moment but fancy freight and saw this job, which considering current family issues could be a life saver for me, I presume your freight? If so how would you reckon my chances obviously not knowing traction and routes? And do you know if they are actively looking to recruit or is it that talent Bank bolloks?

As for agency drivers the lad I know packed it in after 12 months no roster phone call 20 hours before can you make it down to Bournemouth plus not getting paid on time.
Personally I have no issues with it if you sign the route and know the traction then for some i can see the benefits its not for me but I can see it happening a lot more now we work for Boris they are already cutting the fat and making changes!

If it was part time with a company and not an agency then I’m sure you’d still get all of that just not the full amount.

yes mate I’m currently freight but making a move to passenger soon, I don’t really think you not knowing the traction and route would be an issue as they’d just train you on it.

As for recruitment it depends where you are mate? Always worth firing your CV over to a few FOC’s in your area, with you being qualified already then I think they’d just take you on instead of a pool.

And they shouldn't be doing that either.

FOCs are already in a race to the bottom.
