Brendan Rodgers the Liverpool Manager accused Chelsea of "parking two buses" in front of the goal.

Self evidently he regards this style of football as a negative tactic.

My questions are: "Is this comment derogatory of bus drivers" and "does it give the public a negative perception of bus drivers and bus driving"?

Not really, everyone knows that a bus is a big thing so its probably more derogatory to the players involved.

If two buses were parked end to end directly in front of the goalposts where they would be effectively flush with the goalposts, would this make it very difficult for a football to pass over the goal-line ?

It would depend how much clearance there was between the grass and the bottom of the bus. You certainly couldnt get around or over the bus.

Well,

I believe your average goal mouth is 8 yards wide by 8 feet high (sourced via Wikipedia).

I have looked up the dimensions of some buses, which give lengths as between 27 to 31 feet.

Now. 1 ft = 1/3 yard, so I believe that a single bus is, in itself, likely to shut out the goal mouth in it's entireity ( especially if a double decker).

Thus if you park up 2 buses, there is pretty much no chance of getting through!

I suspect a coach in full ferry lift mode(i.e. suspesion raised) would have just about enough clearance to send a small football under...I've access to a pitch and goalposts if anyone has a bus and a football? ;)

I have a football laying around in the shed somewhere, and a friend of Mrs D's family is a bus driver. I'm sure we could arrange a little experiment

Before and after. Tonight :)

2 of the worst photoshops ever.

Mind you, before the weekend there was a couple of pics going round of people off to the Liverpool v Chelsea game with 'Liverpool premier league champions' written on them...

Bet they covered them up going home.
