Park and watch trains on WCML

Now I am not trying to wish the summer away, but it won't be long before the colder days are with us, and I was wondering if anyone can tell me where on the WCML between Preston and Carlisle you can park and watch trains without having to get out of the car?
I am aware of Scout Green and often go there, but wondered if there was anywhere else?

Also the same question for the ECML between Darlington and York, as I often travel down the A1 between Scotch Corner and Leeds.

Between Darlington and York you have Birkby, off the A167 between Darlington and Northallerton. Shipton by Benninghborough, adjacent to The Sidings Restaraunt off the A19. If you're coming A1/A64 then you can drop off at Bilborough Top for Colton Jn. Hope that helps

For the WCML, Hest Bank near Morecambe is worth a try. It's also the only stretch where the line lives up to it's name!

I would imagine that hearing Class 66's climbing up Shap past Scout Green is quite an experience!

It is certainly a great spot and I go there quite regularly.

Darn! Beat me to it. I have spent many hours in the past parked up there watching the trains whizz pass. Not sure if it is still there or open anymore but there used to be a café there where you could pop in for a brew.
