Park and Ride stations in Cologne

Hi

In Feburary I'm in the Cologne area and was looking to do the rail journey between Cologne to Mainz via Koblenz because of it's reviews. As I would be driving in to Cologne from southern Netherlands I was wondering which park and ride would be the best to get to the main station as the tram map has loads of park and ride stops, I'm confused to which one.

If you're approaching Cologne via the A4 motorway, the best P+R would probably be Köln-Weiden West. Take exit 9b (Frechen-Nord), then turn left and follow the signage. To get to the main station, don't take the tram but the S-Bahn instead. There's a train every 10/20 minutes (depending on the time of the day), travel time roughly 15 minutes. Excellent place for trainspotting, too. However, the P+R is highly frequented, so finding a parking spot can be very difficult. Can't tell you anything about the parking fees, unfortunately.

If you get a ticket listed as KÖLN and nothing extra, you can start/finish at any local station inside the city boundaries, they all have KÖLN + something as name. The nice views are much further south, as far as beyond Bonn you wont see much.
IF willing to use only the slower local trains, from start BONN you can use the daily Rheinland Pfalz ticket for 24 eur, also allowing nearly all local buses and rails in the whole ´land´, mo-fr only from 9.00
