It might help to know where you are driving from, and when you might be returning.

Like ChiefPlanner says, Stanmore is the classic answer to this - £6 a day parking, 434 spaces.

(An aside but worth noting that Saba took over responsibility for TfL station car parks in January 2023 from NCP, so there will likely be plenty of outdated/broken links out there to NCP regarding station car park information at Tube stations.)

Another suggestion is Luton Airport Parkway - £3.90 a day parking after 10am, 824 spaces.

Fares however are more expensive, and there's an evening restriction on Super Off-Peak Return / Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard tickets (after 16:29 and before 19:02 from St Pancras).

Harlington about a mile off J12 is very convenient, or alternatively Luton Airport Parkway.

Saves having to drive all the way along the M1. Frequent service from both on Thameslink which could be handy, depending on where in south Londion your're travelling to.

Hard to beat LAP for connectivity - 10 tph from there - albeit 4 are "slow" - and saves the stress of the inner bit of the M1.........(any idea of going via Brent Cross is not a good one - fearsome roundabout at the end of the M1 and junction with the A406 North Circular) - much more civilised at Luton or Stanmore road traffic wise.

Interesting how different people's perspectives are. For me the M1 after the junction with the M25 is dead quiet and the roundabout at the end of the M1 is not an issue.

Brent Cross is an option. Right by M1 J1, with nearly 4000 free parking spaces. Disadvantage being that you need to get a bus (210 to Brent Cross, or 186 to Hendon Central) to access the tube network.

sounds good, but I know J1 from my hitchhiking days and am stuck in my ways now. also have a bus pass to exploit...

Aha, I see, the free car parking is the Brent Cross attraction!

It's quite possible to walk from the shopping centre to Brent Cross tube station (I've done it), but it's undoubtedly a somewhat awkward and 'pedestrian hostile' route.

Indeed, given this sub-optimal pedestrian provision, I'm not quite sure why on the shopping centre's opening in 1976 LT decided to rename the station from Brent to Brent Cross - if you're not in a car, you feel like a bit of an afterthought here!

(Re the free car parking at Brent Cross - there's nothing on their website, but I would strongly assume that overnight parking is not permitted - furthermore it states the car park closes at 9.30pm, so there's at least the possibility of having your car stranded in there overnight... though I suspect there may be a way out that's open later than this.)

The pedestrian route - Brent Cross shopping centre to Brent Cross Northern line is a it hostile - but the area is rapidly being re developed , with the progress on the new Thameslink station coming on in leaps and bounds. (slightly off topic - but indicative of good , practical re-use of under developed land)

Good luck with the trip.

insomnia stops play unfortunately, 3 hours driving plus 3 hours back on top of no sleep seems a bad idea...

Glad you said this, as I was reading the thread I had a recollection of walking this but recall it being quite long winded.
