Try the Ibis Hotel chain - they're fairly basic, consistent and cheap - starting at around €39-49 per night per room, depending on location. Roughly a cross between Travelodge and Premier Inn.

There is a best western almost opposite. Small rooms but good AC - vital in summer.

A little more expensive, but the Holiday Inn Gare Gare De L'est has just had a comprehensive refurbishment, with new decor, beds and air conditioning. It's just round the corner from Gare du Nord, and rooms start from around €80.
