Going slightly off piste, I shall be passing through the Paris Metro early in September before
returning the following month.

I still possess one of the unused above tickets but presumed that these were now null an void?

Shall be travelling from Metros Nord to Lyon (and reverse).

I class as a senior but don't care what I pay, as long as it's a smooth run so any help re buying
tickets would be appreciated and can these be purchased on E*?

The cardboard tickets can still be used (they're also still sold!), probably until the end of this year. Each line of gates should still have a few gates that open with the cardboard tickets.

I wanted to add - if you ever get confused or stuck at the gate, don't worry. Me and a friend had a slight issue with validation of tickets trying to exit at Gare du Nord from the RER a few months back. We found a member of staff, he saw our tickets and let us through the gate. If you have any issues, there are always people around.

My advice to anyone arriving at Gare du Nord is try and get your tickets on your phone before you arrive. Gare du Nord is very busy and a huge station, with surface, RER and metro lines. Not having to faff around buying tickets when you arrive is a big plus.

Covid aside, I've been doing said route at least once a year since 1988 and have many a varied experience crossing Paris.

In days of yore I always found it devoid of assistance and the queues at the ticket office just crazy, with usually just the one person working.

Having eventually mastered the ticket machines, I then discovered these [tickets] were available from the bar on E*, I was like a pig in the proverbial.

Finally #mike57 can you furnish me with the link to download these on one's phone?

You will need the Bonjours RATP app or the Ille de France Mobilities app on you phone, and as part of app setup it checks your phone capability. Most up to date Android phones are fine but there were some issues with iPhone, I don't know if these are resolved yet.

The RATP website is fairly clear.

You don’t need to download an app, you can just do it within the existing Wallet app on a suitable iPhone. Another app only complicates things unnecessarily.

Hit the ‘+’ logo top right, then “Travel Card” and follow the prompts.

It allows you to buy a range of tickets, including refused fares (eg €1,25 for the metro as opposed to €2,50) so I think it would work for a child although I don’t know how you’d select that at the barrier.

I know they were working on it, I didn't realise it was sorted. To be fair I think the original problem was a commercial one between Apple and RATP rather than a technical one.

No. T+ paper tickets are still only valid within zone 1 on RER, but to anywhere on the Metro. The digital train-metro-RER tickets at the same price of €2.50, however, are valid to any zone on RER. In each case excluding most airport journeys, except that T+ tickets and not digital train-metro-RER tickets can be used on line T7 to Orly airport. Confused yet?
