Panel interview

Good Evening all,

I have been a secret lurker on these forums and have just decide to register as i have a few questions if anyone could be kind enough to answer. I have applied for a job role in regards to access planning assistant, were i applied on the 18th of august and in a week went straight to Invite for assessment 2 pending & received an email today confirming a panel interview.

I have never had a panel interview before and i do not know what to expect or what what type of questions they will ask, i can only think of looking at safety rules and the actual job in hand. Can anyone here give me some idea what to expect, and what i should perhaps be looking into. I have a few ideas but many heads are better then one, thank you.

Just be prepared to be asked the safety question with regards to their safety vision which is here:

Also think about your motivational fit for example why do you want to work for NetWork Rail and what you can bring to the role.

Think about a time when you asked someone to do something and they showed resistance and think of a time when you’ve persuaded your manager or someone to change there point of view or way of thinking.

Also think of a time when you’ve successfully implemted or made a suggestion for continuous improvement.

For you, personally, think about what the challenges will be - and how you will face them.

Also, read up on some of the recent media coverage of the May 2018 TT issues at Northern and GTR - some of that is very interesting and gives you a glimpse of the function you are interested in working within.

Another, more applicable to the role - a time when you had a complex problem to solve - what was the problem, what did you do to solve it and most important, what were the results.

Have a "what would you have done differently" answer ready for each as well.

I look for enthusiasm in the role and rail industry as a whole when I interview.

Remember, the company can give you the 'tech' knowledge, but your manner, bearing and enthusiasm are more important as these are personal traits.....

Thank you for your advice to you both, i will look into these areas. I have 18 months experience in the office in the railway for a subcontractor, thrown in the deep end and know bits and bobs. I'm worried that the interview states it will be an hour in a half long and due to my perhaps lack of experience it may be an issue in scenarios.

5 Months on P-way digging, 12 months in office, and weekend work as an earthing assistant.
