Due to an over-run of Network Rail engineering works, services between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal are suspended on the morning of Monday 7 January. First ScotRail will keep inconvenience to an absolute minimum. A high number of replacement buses between Glasgow and Paisley Canal and intermediate stations has been arranged. Clearly, some journeys will take longer than normal and our customers should allow more time for travel. Network Rail is working to restore a full service as soon as possible. An update will be provided in due course. National Rail Enquiries at www.nationalrail.co.uk or phone 08457 48 49 50. First ScotRail Customer Relations – 0845 601 5929.

Sound familiar? ;)

I don't think the Paisley Canal line has quite the same frequency as the WCML or GEML :p

I guess there could be some trains stuck in Corkerhill depending on where the problem is though.

Corkerhill trains have been depot-ing elsewhere (I saw a 320 in Polmont, for example, and according to this page, 156s are at Motherwell), thankfully. The half hourly service was replaced all week by buses, and the arrangement will simply continue for the few passengers who use the line. Thankfully, the Ayr and Inverclyde lines are still open.

Just shows, though, maybe they need to get new contractors or review them more carefully. 3 incidents this year, and on 3 of the most "prolific" closures (GLC-Paisely has been closed since Boxing Day to allow for GARL work), can't be good for NR.

I doubt a 320 was at Polmont. They don't even go to Corkerhill.....

It was probably a Class 320 or 322 at Polmadie
There have been ECS movements of Class 320s and 322s between Shields and Yoker
Very rare to see a Class 322 at Yoker, but so far at least three have been there now

There are also additional Class 156 movements, between Shields, Baillieston, Stepps, and Eastfield
How about that for a diversion!

Indeed, if only we had crossrail.......

I imagine there were many ECS moves yesterday then to get stock back to the right places after the past fortnight.

It gets worse:

Last Updated: 14:18
Route Affected: Glasgow Central, Corkerhill, Hawkhead & Paisley Canal; also Glasgow Central, Paisley Gilmour Street & Wemyss Bay / Gourock / Ardrossan Town / Largs / Ayr & Stranraer
TOC/s Affected: First ScotRail
Description: Train services between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street, and also between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal are being disrupted due to over-running engineering work.

Train services between Glasgow Central and Ayr will run as booked. A half hourly service will operate between Paisley Gilmour Street and Gourock in both directions. An hourly service will operate between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss Bay/Largs/Ardrossan Harbour in both directions.

Services between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal are suspended with a replacement bus in operation between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal in both directions and a bus shuttle is in operation between Paisley Canal and Paisley Gilmour Street.

There is currently no estimate for a normal train service to resume between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street. Services between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal are expected to remain suspended throughout Monday 7 January.

And, according to scot-rail.co.uk, the estimate for return to noormal service is Wednesday at the earliest!!!

So, does this qualify as major now? I think this is the busiest line in Scotland, with trains to all Ayrshire destinations running this way (excluding via Kilmarnock), probably more trains than Rugby will be affected.

With the schools being back, the traffic on that line will have rocketed. I imagine that the one train every half hour between Paisley and Glasgow will be 6 car's but is there any way they can go up to 9 (3x 3car EMU) to increase capacity along this section with joining and splitting at PGS?

The chaos contnues, and as usual the public think they know the culprits  FSR get the bad press for problems caused by NR's contractors (although they could have handled the situation better).

The readers of The Evening Times seem to think that FSR caused the chaos; and I have to ask them what the hell the subway has to do with anything.

Nr are blaming Jarvis, and their public comments are hinting that Jarvis redeployed some staff to Rugby from Shields, or staff who were supposed to work Rugby then Shields were delayed at Rugby and hence that had a knock on to Shields.

The Shields junction problem was integrating the new signaling with the existing stuff.
