For those who are in the Surrey area... from 15th to 27th October, there will be an exhibition sale of some of my paintings in Epsom.

This will include the Royal Train painting that I posted up a picture of on this forum about 1½ years ago, in case anyone wants to see the original. :)

Be aware, though, that there are subjects other than railways ( such as sunsets and ships ) included; it is not a railway paintings exhibition!

Sorry you're not getting much of a response - can't be many art lovers on here!

I'm well north of Surrey so cannot attend - I do a bit of painting myself, mainly seascapes - so would be interested in seeing some of your work if it's available online.

Good luck anyway!

If I was in the area I'd pop down and have a look, but Epsom's rather a long way away :(

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England

I am sure that Peter's paintings will be well received by their viewing public.

However, residence in Cheshire East and my current medical recovery do not allow me to make such a long journey.

I wish you you well with your exhibition.

Peter - I do wish you well with your exhibition.

My wife has just finished an exhibition of her work in North Wales - some of the feedback was quite encouraging, but some soul-destroying.

Remember - you have a right to portray things as you see them, and if others disagree, then, tough.

I'm only sorry the distance between us and you precludes the possibility of our making a visit.

Just watch out for Russians with black paint seeking to "add value" to your work.

All mine are behind glass.... ;)

There will always be adverse comment, even against the very best.

I am certainly never going to be near the standards of top people like Philip Hawkins, not least because I have a slight tremble in my hands; my style is similar to what is known as "primitive" but I go a bit beyond that in that I use shade effects, whereas true "primitive" is a very flat effect*. I am not quite sure what the official term for my style is!

The "ten little paintings" ( I think I posted them up somewhere here recently??? ) will probably get the most criticism as they are not intended as detailed railway paintings; the blurb explains as much but you can bet some people will focus on that rather than the landscape aspects which are the true point of those pictures...

*Nothing wrong with that either - just look at how much "primitive" style side on paintings of Thames sailing barges and fishing boats from the 1930s sell for.

Apologies for the late update!

Well, at the end of the exhibition at least 40 of the "how to buy" forms had been taken, which looks hopeful for the coming weeks. One painting actually sold before the exhibition had finished and, believe it or not, I have not received any adverse comments on any of the pictures exhibited.:)
