I have a friend who wants to go to Paignton on Saturday 28/8/10 leaving man picc about 1000hrs, and return 030910 at about 1000hrs. I have been able to get 2 returns at £38 per person but can get nothing on the outward leg apart from 0535. I thought there was a summers only hst direct from Piccadilly but everything else shows 2 changes on the out at birmingham new street and exeter st davids.

Can anybody help with a reduced outbound fare. Is this because its bank holiday weekend

Looking on National Rail's Journey Planner it seems there is only the 05.35 XC running and that journeys to Paignton involve either Manchester - Shrewsbury - Birmingham - Exeter, or Manchester to Sheffield to join a XC Plymouth bound service. Guess there must be engineering work on the Stoke line as all Manchester to Birmingham journeys are by Virgin to Crewe and by Virgin from Crewe to Birmingham.

That would explain why there are no advanced tickets as your journey will involve other TOCs and will use already busy (Bank Holiday) trains.

07.58 is not shown on journey planner. Only direct train is FROM Paignton about 13.40 (forgot to note exact time sorry), all others are many changes as I said earlier
