Hopefully this will be a straightforward yes or no question.
Tomorrow (27/3) my wife is travelling from Trowbridge to Bushey with a super off peak return. On the return leg she will be travelling back with a friend who will leave at Reading.
My question is this. Are the time restrictions from Paddington confined to GWR services and is it therefore possible to travel to Reading using the Elizabeth Line? Or is it a blanket restriction covering everything out of PAD?
Hope this makes sense and thank you.

Restriction XC
All services
Return Travel
Not valid on trains timed to depart:
  • London Paddington after 04:29 and before 10:10 and after 15:04 and before 19:01;
However https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=TRO&dest=BSH&expert=on&flow=0&multi=0&fare=5&ldn=1&tkt=SSR only restricts GWR in the detailed restrictions. Go figure!

It is as I suspected then. I did look up the restriction code but wasn't entirely certain whether it covered everything leaving PAD between those times or if the Elizabeth line was treated differently.
Thank you for the confirmation.

It is unfortunately not quite as straightforward a question as it should be!

On paper, the restrictions apply to all departures from Paddington. That is what the text of the restriction code XC says.

However, the way this has actually been implemented in the data underlying this restriction is that only applies to GWR services:
Not valid to depart LONDON PADDINGTON 0430–1009 on GWR
Not valid to depart LONDON PADDINGTON 1505–1900 on GWR
So journey planners will happily offer itineraries involving an Elizabeth line service departing Paddington during the (ostensibly) barred period, e.g. see here:

And in practice, I don't think there are likely to be any difficulties at the Elizabeth line gateline at Paddington, since the intention is for Elizabeth line services not to have evening restrictions for Off-Peak tickets (of course the istuation is different for PAYG).

The ticket would likely either be accepted automatically by the barrier, or if rejected the staff would almost certainly let you through without issue. You can always show an itinerary such as the above if you want to prove this, although technically speaking you have to buy your ticket in conjunction with an itinerary in order to be able to rely on it.
