Paddington to Euston and vv

The traditional route from Paddington station to Euston station would be by Circle/H&C to Euston Square. I've noticed that journey planners sometimes prefer Elizabeth to Tottenham Court Road and then Northern.

I could believe that if you are already on an Elizabeth train going into Paddington, that staying on until TCR is sensible. Equally if intending to head out of Paddington on an Elizabeth. But what if it's a regular main line service at Paddington? It can seem a long walk from Euston to Euston Square, but the underground passages at TCR and Euston aren't short either.

My regular service at Paddington would be the 387 semi-fast, so that's likely to be platform 12 or 14.

One disadvatage of the Circle eastbound is that you have to change at Edgware Rd. - although it is any easy x-platform one. The H & C platforms at Paddington can be a bit of a traipse depending on where your main line train is and where your seat is.
The Euston Road can be a pain with luggage too, threading through the crowds - although you can take the back way via Drummond St.

I've not tried the new interchange at Tottenham Ct. Rd. - I'll give it a go next time!

I did this last Friday. Out to Euston Square and westbound Circle Line. I actually alighted at Edgware Road because that was fractionally closer to my intended destination (the new Wetherspoon on the wharf bit just outside Paddington station)

A lot of the underground passageways are one way only, and set up to avoid people meeting at cross passage junctions, so often signed to go long way round.

If you know layouts of stations there is often shortcuts, some of them just few metres long which connect to an old shorter (but no longer signposted) route. TCR also has some part built passageways (provision was made for Crossrail 2) which would open up further alternatives if they were finished.

Yes, but need to use the stairs at opposite ends to escalators, which lead to a sort of footbridge arrangement linking the northbound and southbound platforms, not go via ticket hall.

Green Park can be an immense hike between the intersecting lines, but perhaps not between southbound and northbound Victoria.

The Victoria Line at Green Park is essentially an island platform with cross passages between the two sides; A very simple change!

From platforms 12 or 14 there are steps up to the bridge and you are then very close to the H&C platforms at Paddington. You would be best to be in about the 5th coach of a 387 I would think. This would also be in roughly the correct area if you came in on a different platform. It is a fairly short walk from Euston Square.

In the current weather I would definitely go for an aircon train. The Victoria line and other deep level tubes are not fun at the best of times ...

Got to be one of best tips ever given on here, I've walked from Bakerloo southbound to Victoria Line northbound and I felt like giving up. Well done, thank you

It does, but avoids the walk from Euston Square (subject to unpleasant weather) and is faster than the bus, especially since TfL diverted the once-useful 205 away from Paddington (although if not in a hurry I do still use the bus, changing en route between the 27 and 18 or 205).

Thanks I've got to do exactly that move late at night shortly so that's good info. I was weighing up the tip earlier in this thread about nipping down to Green Park and returning Northbound, anything to save that long walk. I'm not badly disabled but I do walk quite slowly with a stick, so this info is helpful, thanks again.

I agree, when the 205 stopped on Praed Street and when into Euston Bus Station it was pretty good all things considered.

Some routes have really nice new Chinese buses with AC. I don't think the 205 does, but I'm far more into trains than I am buses so I'm not the best source.
