Paddington to Bristol TM

Just want to check that my proposed split is valid for use on the fast trains out of paddington for this Saturday.

I hold a zones 1-6 season ticket on my Oyster card and propose to use the following tickets in addition to complete my journey.

West Drayton to Didcot Parkway (£10.05)
Didcot Parkway to Swindon (£7.15)
Swindon to Bristol TM (£9.85)

All prices are railcard discounted (Young persons).

Is this valid and can I expect to get through the barrier at Paddington without any arguments?

Absolutely, as per the NRCoC:, which allows you to use "two or more tickets for one journey" in various circumstances, including where:

....one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass,and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

I have put the relevant parts in bold above.

As the service goes via West Drayton, Didcot & Swindon, the combination is valid.

and can I expect to get through the barrier at Paddington without any arguments?

Valid tickets may be falsely claimed to be invalid by some staff at Paddington. This is a known problem and FGW are not doing enough about it (despite their claims that they are)

That's interesting - so 19(c) trumps the requirement for the train to call anywhere along the split, including the boundary of your ST validity?

Are there any separate barriers for trains going to Reading and beyond? If not, your Travelcard would be valid as the barrier doesn't know you are going beyond West Drayton.

No need to split at Swindon. Didcot Parkway to Bristol TM Off Peak Day Return is £15.25 with your railcard. Your Swindon split totals £17.00.

I've used these split points several times when I travel to Bath, mainly at weekends but occasionally on weekday early evenings.

I've never had a problem with guards on board, they're pretty knowledgeable about condition 19.

The barriers at Paddington could be more challenging. Personally I've never had a problem but reports on this forum suggests others have.

Thanks, unless it's changed I think the barriers at the low numbered platforms don't accept Oyster so can't touch in that way to get through (which is ridiculous in itself as stopping trains frequently terminate there late evening).

I wouldn't say 19(c) "trumps" 19(b).

One of the following must apply: 19(a) or 19(b) or 19(c).

(If more than one applies, that's fine too!)
