Hi all,

I am planning a day out from Paddington to Newquay at somepoint on a summer saturday and would preferably like to travel on the limited stop services so I can do the trip in a day:
07:36 PAD - NQY
13:14 NQY - PAD
The thing is, there aren't any advance tickets available for theses services. Does this mean they are sold out or just not available yet?

Any help will be appreciated,
:)

More than likely they arent available yet. How far in advance are you looking?

I am looking at any time around Mid/late June to late July. I am confused because they are the only services without advance fares.

Thats strange. Hold on, I will try it.

Edit: For some strange reason FGW arent offering advance fares on any of the services im looking at. Im guessing they arent available yet. Strange though, because EC are offering advance fares on their services for the same date in July.

This service doesn't seem to be open for reservations on any date yet. Presumably there is a problem with the timings or something which need to be resolved before advance tickets can be offered on it. You'd be best to wait, as advance should be released and probably fairly soon.

FGW said:
You can book your tickets on all First Great Western Monday to Friday services until Wednesday 6 July 2011, Saturday services until 2 July and 3 July for Sunday services.

I have a dim memory from a month or two back about FGW taking summer Saturday bookings to Cornwall ahead of the normal 12 weeks or so window. So it's possible that these trains are sold out already, though I would hope not.

It's very unlikely they would be sold out for every weekend they are available for. The booking ahead of the usual 12 weeks are usually only in July and August. Tickets are not available on this service on any weekend it runs, from late May but tickets are available on other trains.

Yes, you can't get a seat reservation against an ordinary ticket either, which suggests it is not open for bookings.

On the direct Newquays there are very few (if any now??) AP's usually available due to their popularity, but seat reservations are usually available so it would appear that you cant book that far ahead yet but keep looking as the AP's will go quick.

The Newquay HSTs are completely hit and miss. Some/most of them are completely dead, whilst i've also witnessed the 0736 Pad - Nqy leaving Reading full and standing through First Class!

I have it on good authority that the PAD<->NQY Summer Saturday services that are currently unavailable to book should be in booking engines sometime next week.

An error by Network Rail apparently and something FGW have been working hard to fix.

I wouldn't hold out much hope of vast savings with Standard Class Advance Purchase over the Super Off Peak Singles though. These Summer Saturday Only trains are notoriously busy so yield management is not going to throw up many cheap APs.
