On the subject of noisy, dirty, slow and just generally rubbish trains operating 'express' trains, the 153 operated Crewe - Derby services are all class 1 headcodes.

The track obviously makes a hell of a difference to the ride quality of 142s and in the NW at least the vast majority is now nice CWR! As for being slow I wouldn't say this is the case, I bet they could give most DMUs a good run up to a point.

ATW 142/143s working Cardiff to Fishguard Harbour services.

Don't think any Pacers are booked for Fishguard expresses now, normally a 150 or a 158. Although in fairness I think the Sunday morning diagram (1009 Hereford to Fishguard) is sometimes a 150+143 formation.

However, Pacers do run the express Cardiff to Treherbert services which run fast to Radyr via the City Line.
